The day before, I made birria tacos! However, I live by myself, and I had a whole huge portion of birria meat, with no tacos to make a second helping.
Then, I decided to make this recipe! It brings the deep richness of birria, and complemented by a sweet and savory honey ginger texture. This is one of my most favorite recipes by far I accidentally made, and I honestly hope I have left overs again so I have another excuse to make this 😭
This recipe assumes you already have the birria meat in stock. I will NOT put in my birria taco recipe here, that will be on a later post.
Macronutrients:
- Calories: 300 ~ 700 (largely determines on whether you add rice or not, along with how much meat you have)
- Protein: 25 ~ 35 grams (mainly determined by the amount of birria you have)
- Fat: 25~29 grams
- Carbs: 30 ~ 60 grams (depends on the addition of rice or not)
Estimated Cooking Time:
10 – 15 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 serving of Birria Meat
- 2 tbsp Minced Ginger
- 1 tbsp of neural oil
- 2 1/2 tbsp Honey
- 1 Tbsp Light and Dark soy sauce each
- White Pepper
- 1 Tbsp Leftover Consomé from Birria (If you have it, and optional)
- 1 Tbsp Chili Garlic Sauce (Optional)
- Salt
- Green Onions (Garnish)
- Chili Flakes and Chili Crisp (Garnish)
- Toasted Sesame Seeds (Garnish)
- 1 Tbsp Cornstarch (optional)
Tips:
- Cornstarch is only here because of I made a cornstarch slurry for this. For this recipe (I did it off camera), I did it both ways, and I liked both of them. I’d recommend you do the slurry if you add in some consomé though as you don’t want the sauce to be too watery. If you don’t use consomé, then add a little bit more honey.
Steps:
- Step 1: Reheat your leftover birria meat with your preferred method.
- Step 2: In a small pan over low medium heat, sauté the minced ginger until fragrant.
- Step 3: Pour in your honey and stir it around for 30 seconds. Then, pour in a pinch of white pepper, light and dark soy sauce, and salt to preferred taste. Continue stirring.
- Step 3.5 (Optional): Add in your Chili garlic sauce and consomé and continue to stir.
- Step 4 (Optional): In a separate bowl, combine cornstarch with a little bit of water and slowly pour in the mixture in the sauce. Continue to stir until it thickens up.
- Step 5: Add in your birria meat and coat it in the sauce. Garnish with the toppings listed, and I hope you enjoy!
